📍 Treasury room

What you see

The treasury gathers the cathedral's precious objects: chalices, processional crosses, monstrances, painted enamel plaques and reliquaries. Part of it came from Clairvaux Abbey, closed during the Revolution. This shrine, shaped like a small church, holds relics. According to the cathedral's tradition, they are those of Saint Bernard, founder of Clairvaux, and of his friend Saint Malachy. Each case also shows what the objects were used for during services.

👨‍👩‍👧 For families

Treasure challenge: find a chalice (a cup), a monstrance (it looks like a sun) and a processional cross (a cross on a long pole). Then look at the big golden box: it is a shrine. It keeps remains of saints that people came to pray to.

✝️ What it says about faith

Christians venerate the relics of the saints without worshipping them: they recall that holiness took shape in real lives. The monstrance is used to show the consecrated host to the faithful. The chalice holds the wine of the Eucharist. The beauty of the materials expresses the importance of what they contain.
